Her Excellency Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma graciously agrees to become Buskaid’s first South African Patron

“Dr Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini-Zuma was born in 1949 in KwaZulu-Natal, at a time when black women’s career expectations did not go beyond domestic work.

Dr Dlamini-Zuma became an active underground member of the ANC. In 1976 she fled into exile, completing medical studies at the University of Bristol in the UK in 1978.  After the 1994 elections, Dr Dlamini-Zuma was appointed Minister of Health in the cabinet of the late former President Nelson Mandela. Elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission in 2012, Dr Dlamini-Zuma is the first woman to lead the continental organisation since its inception.”

We are most honoured to welcome HE Dr Dlamini-Zuma as our South African Patron. She is an outstanding role model for all our students, most especially the increasing number of girls and young women enrolled at Buskaid.

Forthcoming Concerts and Events in 2017 - Buskaid's 20th Anniversary Year!

The Buskaid Ensemble has recently returned from a hugely successful 20th Anniversary tour of Brazil and Colombia. 25 talented young Buskaid musicians, the youngest of whom turned 14 on the tour, took Sao Paulo, Bogota and Cartagena by storm with their fine musicianship, virtuoso performances and infectious energy. The tour culminated in a joint presentation by Buskaid and El Colegio del Cuerpo, the internationally acclaimed Colombian contemporary dance ensemble. Together these two groups performed NEGRA, a moving tribute to Nina Simone, to a packed theatre in Cartagena's historic Old Town.

The Buskaid Ensemble is now looking forward to presenting its annual public concert in Johannesburg on Saturday 2 September 2017 at 7.30 pm at the Linder Auditorium, Parktown.

Booking at Computicket will be open by Monday 7th August and ticket prices range from R240 to R120 (concessions).

Classic FM's Deano Maduramuthu will compere this very special 20th Anniversary concert! Programme to include works by Rameau, Kreisler, Shostakovich, Dragonetti and Elgar, plus a selection of the Nina Simone songs performed in Colombia. As always, infectious Kwela will end the evening on a high note!

Please join us to celebrate 20 amazing Buskaid years!
